Charlotte Burdick Shead
Charlotte Burdick Shead, 94, of Chaplin, passed away at home on September 6, 2023. She was born on August 23, 1929 to Wilfred and Marion (Powe) Burdick. She leaves behind her daughters Diane Bray of Chaplin, Susan Shead of Milford and her boyfriend Bob Boger, and her son Donald G. Shead Jr. and his wife Barbara of Maine. She also leaves behind her grandson Christopher Bray of Chaplin and his fiancée Stacey Ryan, and her granddaughter Jamie Shead of Maine; five great-grandchildren, Alexia and Ethan Bray of Chaplin, Nichole Kehoe, Pieper Shead and Milo Davis of Maine. She also leaves behind a very special niece Sandra LaChapelle of Canterbury and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Donald G. Shead, Sr.; her grandson Donald G. Shead, III; and her infant son Timothy.
Charlotte was very proud of being Chairman of the Building Committee for the new Elementary School.
She was also instrumental in acquiring the property for the new town garage. She was very active in the Republican Town Committee, serving in several capacities. Charlotte served as First Selectperson for the Town of Chaplin for several years. She was also the Tax Collector for many years, and an aide at the Elementary School. She was a member of the Chaplin Congregational Church all her life, was very active in the Women’s Fellowship and Prudential Committee of the Church, and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Fire Department. She was a member of the Chaplin Senior Center where she had many friends, and a special life-long friendship with Eva Aubert. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Charlotte’s family will receive family and friends on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Willimantic. Her funeral service will be held Friday, September 15, 2023 at 10:00am at the Chaplin Congregational Church, 43 Chaplin St., Chaplin, burial to follow at the South Chaplin Cemetery.
